NOTE: when a well is listed as a "Bakken" well, that is the Bakken Pool as defined by the NDIC; some of the recent wells listed as "Bakken" are producing from the Three Forks Sanish formation.  Occasionally it is possible to determine if a well is a Bakken formation well or a TFS well, but it is not easy in most cases. The USGS 2008 survey was based on Bakken formation information only, to the best of my knowledge, and probably underestimated the size of the pool by half had the TFS also been included. That explains why USGS estimates 3 billion barrels recoverable oil; NDIC director estimates 11 billion barrels recoverable oil; and, Harold Hamm estimates 14 billion barrels of recoverable "Bakken" oil.

      Bruce,
Enercom is hosting a conference in Denver in which many Oil and Gas
companies are presenting. Some of these companies are in the Bakken.

The link below (you may have to copy it and paste it in your browser) -
provides an audio recording and slides of each presentation.... it
looks like companies have about 25 minutes to present their stuff -
      there are lots of companies.....

    2. Bruce,

Regarding the Hearing dockets for April 2011, I noticed this for our well:

"14521: North Plains, risk penalty legalese for Scanlan 3-5H, Truax, Williams"

      Any idea what this means?
Where can I get more info on this statement?

Thanks for any help you can offer....

    3. This is the full case summary from the NDIC site:

In the matter of the petition for a risk penalty of North Plains Energy, LLC, requesting an order authorizing the recovery of a risk penalty from certain non-participating owners as provided by NDCC § 38-08-08 in the drilling and completion of the Scanlan #3-5H well, Sections 4 and 5, T.153N.,
R.98W., Truax Field, Williams County, ND, pursuant to NDAC § 43-02- 03-88.1, and such other relief as is appropriate.

I do not know what it means but the folks over on the Teegue Bakken Shale Discussion Group may be able to help you out (the site is linked on the sidebar at the right):

      http://groups.google.com/group/bakken-shale-discussion?pli=1

My hunch, however, is this: the operator is ready to drill (or has drilled); the well went through the pooling process because someone did not want to sign with the operator. Now the company that drilled wants to collect from the individual that did not agree to terms offered by the operator regarding royalty payments. That's my hunch. Unless you were the one who did not sign the lease, I doubt this will affect you. But again, just my hunch. The folks over at the discussion group might be able to add more insight.
