HIRAMS -- July 11, 2022
For those not following the HIRAMS story -- this is huge. I've purposely not posted some of the most hyperbolic statements -- but they are no longer hyperbolic. Peter Zeihan -- again -- had the lead on this several days ago.

- $5.354 million
- Whiting
- $2.346 million

European Leaders Telling Their Citizens To Prepare For War Now -- July 11, 2022
Another reference to "war" here. Europe telling their citizens to prepare war:
No New Permits; No Canceled Permits; Fourteen Permits Renewed -- July 11, 2022
WTI: $102.90
Natural gas: $6.525.
Active rigs: NDIC shows a jump to 47 rigs, but one is a SWD well, and at least one rig that is probably not an oil-and-gas rig, making it 45 active oil-and-gas rigs.
NDIC GIS: not up.
No new permits.
Fourteen permits renewed:
- CLR (7): four Lancaster permits in McKenzie County; two Thronson permits in Mountrail County, and one Sorenson permit in Mountrail County;
- Sinclair (4): four Saetz Federal permits inn McKenzie County;
- Petro-Hunt (2): two Arsenal Federal permits in McKenzie County;
- BR: one Sanmuri permit in McKenzie County
ERCOT -- Fourth Of Four Days -- It Lokos Like The Grid Will Hold -- July 11, 2022
ERCOT: link here.
Wind was a disaster. Providing eight percent of nameplate capacity. LOL.
By the way, if the grid holds it is because folks voluntarily cut back on energy use to save energy and save the grid. Most remarkably, and probably the biggest reason the grid held: the cryptominers agreed to shut down mining to save the state's electricity grid.
It's amazing that some folks that actually follow "energy" still don't get it. See Frank Mackey:

I don't have time (nor the interest for that matter) to talk about this now, but I'm going to post a few links to which I can come back if the spirit moves me, but for those paying attention, they should be able to connect the dots.

My heart is not into this today, but I will do it for the archives.
Far Side: link here.
WTI: $102.90. In a trading range. The better Bakken operators show free cash flow with WTI at $40, and sometimes even lower. Generally (?), Harold Hamm, unhedged, is getting more for a bbl of Bakken oil than the WTI scroller shows. Don't quote me on that; it's very, very dynamic.
NDIC: of course, the GIS map server is still not working. It's been more than a year. There is no longer any "get-well" date.

RBN Energy: Fidelis New Energy's GigaSystem gears up to produce sustainable aviation fuel, renewable diesel.
As concerns about energy security have come to the forefront, some in the mainstream have begun to pump the brakes on the idea of energy transition at any cost and reevaluate the practicality of some proposed solutions. But that hasn’t changed the long-term outlook for energy transition nor the fact that numerous individual projects focused on alternative fuels, carbon capture, hydrogen and renewable energy are in the works, gaining in prominence and attracting a prodigious amount of investment. There is still an anticipation among investors that the market will increasingly demand greener production methods — they just need to be well-conceived, planned and executed. The good thing for Fidelis New Energy — a Houston-based firm focused on climate-impact infrastructure, including low-carbon, sustainable fuels — is that, among renewable producers, they’re building a sustainable cost advantage through efficient, integrated design. In today’s RBN blog we look at what Fidelis calls the Grön Fuels GigaSystem.
The GigaSystem promises to bring sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel (RD) production together with carbon capture and sequestration (CCS), while utilizing carbon-negative power to reduce the carbon intensity (CI) of its fuels. Even more fundamentally, the system has the enviable capacity to handle multiple transportation options, with rail, pipeline and dock infrastructure, centrally located at the Port of Greater Baton Rouge. Fidelis and Optimized Process Designs (OPD), an affiliate of Koch Engineered Solutions, announced the execution of a lump-sum, turnkey definitive engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) agreement for the renewable fuels facility as well as design considerations enabling the optimized add-on of CCS and carbon-negative power to the site, all of which rely on the use of existing, proven technologies from leading global companies.

Updates
Later, 1:01 p.m. CT: right now, the highest "risk" is 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. CT.
Original Post
ERCOT: this could be the day of rolling brownouts, blackouts, political hysteria here in Texas. It will be close. It all depends on the wind. Right now, it appears the worst will be 3:00 p.m. local time to 4:30 p.m. local time. That is a dynamic link and will change with the wind.
Bjorn Lomborg, who I don't think is even from Texas, has it all figured out. The very folks who are blaming the Texas governor for this problem are the very same folks who want more wind turbines installed.
Can you imagine running an airline, or a railroad, much less an entire state or country that depended on the whim of the wind? Holy mackerel. These folks who want more wind turbines are nuts. And, of course, solar is even worse.
Anyway, I have to move on. In the big scheme of things, no one really cares about these things, and nothing will change anyway.

Sophia:
Two weeks ago, Sophia completed a two-week sailing course on Lake Grapevine, TX. This past week she was on Dauphin Island, Alabama ("Florida").
Today is her first day at day camp at the Ranch of the Lonesome Dove.
Her birthday earlier this month:
Meanwhile, blogging today will be really inefficient. First, the rolling brownouts. LOL. But now, I'm poolside at 9:00 a.m. It's already incredibly humid and hot. The past three days felt pretty dry so it did not seem so hot, but it certainly seems humid today. Now like the humidity in Iowa, Ohio, New Jersey (or Houston, TX) that is so much worse, but it's noticeable all the same.
Jobs: a reader sent me a link to ZeroHedge regarding the jobs report that came out last week.
There are actually two links. The first link is the "updated" version: https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/something-snaps-us-labor-market-full-part-time-workers-plunge-multiple-jobholders-soar.
Inside that article, at the very top is another link: https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/wall-street-stunned-june-payrolls-unexpectedly-smash-expectations.
I might comment on these two articles later, but maybe not. As noted, today is going to be very, very inefficient.
There were two things that popped out at me, first this, at the first link, screenshot -- Tyler notes that more than 7 billion Americans now hold multiple jobs. I assume this is where President Biden gets his numbers. From the internet.
The second thing that popped out at me, also at the first link, again, a screenshot:
The first thing I would want to know is the definition of a full-time job. I know our daughter would argue that she has two full-time jobs, the second being raising a family of three daughters. For which she does not receive any direct monetary payment. In fact, the government takes money away from her through taxes on her first job. And, it should be noted, there are folks out there who actually get paid by the government for doing the same thing, if they qualify, called the earned income tax credit.
Important:
- Comparing employment from the BLS household and payroll surveys. From the BLS.
The gap grows between investors and savers/non-savers, link here.
Take a look at this graphic. See if you notice something very, very interesting. I'll post that later, I just want to see how observant folks are.
I'll post a note about the graphic above later, and when I do, I will link it back to this.
