BR's Blue Ridge Wells In The Keene Oil Field, Bakken, North Dakota, USA

I track the Keene oil field here.  Look how good the Blue Ridge well even as far back as 2010 was:
  • 25892, 1,728, BR, Blue Ridge 41-30MBH ULW, Keene, 4 sections, 8 stages, 6.6 million lbs, 11/13; and then, 13 stages, 2.9 million lbs, 5/14, t6/14; cum 329K 1/20; a real steady Eddy; still producing almost 3,000 bbls/month (12/18); producing about 2,000 bbls/month (5/19);
  • 25891, 2,805, Blue Ridge 44-31MBH, Keene, 30 stages, 3.4 million lbs, t1/14; cum 392K 1/20; off line as of 12/18; back on line 1/19;
  • 25890, 2,887, Blue Ridge 44-31TFH, Keene, t1/14; cum 317K 1/20; a real steady Eddy; still producing almost 3,000 bbls/month (12/18); production becoming sporadic (5/19); off line 6/19; remains off line 9/19;
  • 25888, 2,970, Blue Ridge 24-31TFH, Keene, t1/14; cum 265K 1/20;
  • 25887, 2,834, Blue Ridge 24-31MBH, Keene, t1/14; cum 369K 1/20; candidate for re-frack soon; production jumped a bit 4/19; off line 8/19; remains off line 9/19; back on line 11/19;
  • 25886, 2,886, Blue Ridge 34-31TFH, Keene, t1/14; cum 336K 1/20;
  • 20621, 3,591, Blue Ridge 14-31TFH, Keene, 8 stages, 7.7 million lbs, 5/12; and, then, 12 stages, 1.5 million lbs also in 5/12, t5/12; cum 388K 1/20;
  • 18290, 2,192, Blue Ridge 14-31H, Keene, t8/10; cum 397K 1/20; this one had five frack spreads:
    • 6/10: 10 stages, 1 million lbs
    • 8/10: 1 stage, 120K lbs
    • 8/10: 4 stages, 620K lbs

A Couple Of EOG Wells "In Flux" With Name Changes, Status; Nothing Significant In Big Scheme Of Things; Will Be Sorted Out Over Time

Mineral owners involved may find this information interesting. Or not.

Note: there may be typographical errors on my part.

Look at this scout ticket:

NDIC File No: 25703
Well Type: OG     Well Status: PNC     Status Date: 6/24/2013     Wellbore type: Horizontal
Location: SWSE 28-153-90     Footages: 445 FSL 2400 FEL
Current Operator: EOG RESOURCES, INC.
Current Well Name: WAYZETTA 33-2829HC

BAKKEN12-20133030300306331107912738012589

See anything unusual? I put the data points that surprised me in red/bold.
1. PNC = permit canceled
2. This well produced 30,300 bbls of oil in first month of production. Not likely to be canceled.
Looking at the file report:
1. The permit, dated 4/30/13, was originally for a well with this name: Wayzetta 33-2829H.
2.  6/20/13: EOG requests the permit (Wayzeta 33-2829H) be canceled.  Received by NDIC 6/24/13.
3.  6/24/13: EOG requests name change to Wayzetta 33-2829HX. Received by NDIC 6/24/13.
4. 6/25/13: EOG requests well name change to Wayzetta 33-2829HC. Received by NDIC 6/28/13.
5. 12/12/3: EOG request 6-month confidentiality of Wayzetta 33-2829HC. Received by NDIC 12/19/13.
6. 2/4/14: EOG sundry form says production methods changed from flowing to ESP on January 11, 2014; well returned to sales on January 13, 2014. Received by NDIC on February 6, 2014. (Note: sundry form showed name of well as Wayzetta 33-2829H -- obviously a typographical error, missing the terminal "C.")
Comment: with last production data for month of December, 2013, on the scout ticket, most likely this well is not "PNC" but "CONF" and should come off the confidential list on/about June, 2014, and we might not see production data until August or September, 2014.

The well is not on the NDIC confidential list.

From Seeking Alpha On Monterey Shale, California; TrainWreck In California; California Blue?

The link:
  • The revelation that California's Monterey Shale deposit will yield only 4% of what was originally hoped was not a big surprise to those in the know, who say the downgrade does little to alter the near-term trajectory of the energy renaissance.
  • Monterey's terrain, as well as California's strict environmental regulation, always meant full scale drilling would be difficult; Chevron bemoaned the lack of profit derived from its Monterey operations at a 2013 shareholders meeting, and Venoco - once one of the biggest drillers in the formation - exited most of its Monterey acreage years ago in order to reduce debt and go private.
  • The Monterey news does spotlight an element of the shale boom that often goes unremarked by fracking advocates: Shale wells are prone to rapid depletion rates, as spots in North Dakota's Bakken lose 85% of their capacity within a few years.
EOG's expectation is that Bakken wells will pay for themselves in one year, and possibly six months. All wells deplete. It's all about cost of wells, return on capital, and EURs. Even with a fast depletion rate, the production does eventually tend to level off; while the well is producing, the lease is "held by production." Bakken wells are expected to produce for 39 years. The rate of depletion is a metric well-understood by regular readers. Readers may want to note the Bakken projections to put the "85% depletion" in perspective.

California Blue, Roy Orbison
This may just be my favorite song of all time.

TrainWreck In California
ObamaCare Enrollees Cannot Even Get Something So Basic As An Insurance Card

The Los Angeles Times is reporting a trainwreck in California that is not George W. Bush's fault:
Nearly 1,500 Californians have complained to state regulators in the last four months about their Obamacare coverage purchased through California's insurance exchange.
New data reveal the biggest category of complaints centers on getting confirmation of health plan enrollment and basic issues such as getting an identification card to obtain care.
Many consumers have also encountered difficulty finding a doctor who accepts their new coverage, as well as frustration with inaccurate provider lists, according to the California Department of Managed Health Care.
"If you have a medical condition and can't get care that is a very serious issue," said Marta Green, spokeswoman for the managed healthcare agency. "We are still working to resolve many of these cases."
The 23 veterans who died in Arizona because they couldn't get an appointment suggests that Ms Green is correct: "If you have a medical condition and can't get care that is a very serious issue." Wow, where do they find these people. Acorn?

The good news coming from these acorns is that 1,500 represents a very small number of potential complainers. Let's go golfing.

[Voter ID cards: no. Heathcare ID cards: yes, but you can't get 'em.]

And Now Mr Obama Throws Half of Mt Rushmore Under The Bus

Mr Obama says the Founding Fathers screwed up the Constitution, and that explains why his administration has failed. I guess it took more than George W. Bush to explain all his failures. I can't make this stuff up.

For Investors Only -- Friday, May 23, 2014 -- Going Into Long Weekend

S&P hits 1,900 for the first time. Flirts with intra-day high.  I see CNBC finally removed Dennis Gartman's talk of a correction this week. [See this update.]

WTI oil solidly above $104.

NYSE/Dow hits new high.

Trading at new 52-week highs: AAPL, UNP, WMB. I can't remember if I saw this earlier -- UNP announced a 2-1 stock split a few days ago (yes, I see I did; I forgot). I still think we will see an announcement from XOM and CVX of a forthcoming split. Look at the chart/events.

I was intrigued when I saw the headline that "Tesla was on fire" over at CNBC -- I knew they weren't talking about batteries catching, but I was a little surprised that shares were moving. So I checked. Up less than a percent and well off its 52-week high. CNBC  certainly has its favorites. Meanwhile, not mentioned by CNBC, AAPL is trading at a new 52-week high, up almost $4.00.

RBN Energy: Questar to put back in service an old pipeline from Four Corners to Long Beach, CA.
A recent proposal from Questar could bring part of a pipeline that once shipped crude to Long Beach from Four Corners in the 1950’s back into service. Questar plans to convert the western segment of its Southern Trails pipeline to crude and rename it the Inland California Express. The pipeline origin would be a rail load terminal in Central California from where crude would flow to Long Beach refineries with over 1 MMb/d capacity. The Questar proposal will likely attract support from shippers in the Rockies as well as Western Canada but still be a stretch for crude loaded onto railcars in the Permian. Today we review the proposal.

Recall that last year we evaluated the failed Kinder Morgan Freedom Pipeline proposal that would have run from West Texas to California. That project reinforced a commonly held belief that it is a financial and engineering stretch to build crude pipelines over the Rockies and Sierra Nevada mountain ranges that separate the eastern US from the West Coast. But that has not always been the case.
Over 50 years ago in 1957, Shell Oil led a consortium that developed the 700 mile Four Corners pipeline running from close to the borders of New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Colorado, transporting midcontinent crude to refineries in Long Beach, CA.
The Four Corners pipeline was purchased by ARCO (Atlantic Richfield – now part of BP) in the 1970’s, renamed as the ARCO 190 pipeline and its direction was reversed to ship the company’s Alaska North Slope (ANS) crude, (delivered to Long Beach in tankers from Valdez, AK), east across the US to the Texas Gulf Coast.
But in 1982 the Transpanama Pipeline was opened across the Panamanian Isthmus to ship ANS to the Gulf Coast and by the late 1990’s, ANS crude production volumes were in decline. In 1998 ARCO sold the pipeline to interstate natural gas shipper Questar Pipeline Company who wanted to repurpose the line to ship natural gas westbound.
The Wall Street Journal

Existing-home sales rise -- for the first time this year -- up 1.3% in April.

Explosive oil trains shrouded in secrecy! Secrecy of CBR causes concern.
Emergency responders in Cincinnati know that trains full of crude oil have been rumbling through their city; they can see mile-long chains of black tank cars clacking across bridges over the Ohio River.
But they don't know enough to feel prepared for the kinds of fiery accidents that have occurred over the last 10 months after oil-train derailments.
How many of the 100 trains that pass through residential neighborhoods and warehouse districts daily are carrying oil, for example? And when crude is carried, is it the kind that federal investigators have linked to explosions?
"We have no idea when trains are moving through and when they aren't," said Thomas Lakamp, special operations chief for the Cincinnati Fire Department. "The railroads aren't required to report to us."
