Strata-X Strikes Natural Gas In "The Sleeping Giant" In North Dakota; Economical? Still In Progress

I track Strata-X and "The Sleeping Giant" here.

To find "exact location" of this well on a map, scroll to the bottom of this post for instructions:

Press release here. In case that link breaks, another link.

This is the beginning of the press release:
DENVER, COLORADO USA, BRISBANE, QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA and VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA CANADA - June 26, 2014 (Pacific Time - Canada)
  • Gas shows encountered in the Niobrara formation after penetrating regional hydrocarbon seal.
  • Approximately 80 feet of reservoir interpreted in the upper two intervals of the Niobrara.
  • Currently running logs ahead of casing operations.
The Directors and management of Strata-X Energy Ltd. are pleased to announce that the Company has completed drilling operations on the Rohweder #1-11 well (“Well”), the Company’s first proof of concept well on the Company’s 120,000 net acre Sleeping Giant Gas Project. In drilling the vertical Well to a total depth of 1,450 feet, gas shows were encountered immediately after penetrating the regional hydrocarbon seal. In total, gas shows were encountered over an 80 foot interval of the targeted Niobrara formation, with gas shows peaking at approximately 300 units over a background of 25 units. In drilling portions of the targeted Niobrara formation, oil fluorescence and oil cut were also observed.
The Well is currently being logged in preparation for setting casing to total depth. After casing, the Well will be shut-in to await completion stimulation. This will allow the Company time to design an optimal method utilizing data obtained during the drilling of the Well. The Rohweder #1-11 well is the Company’s first proof of concept well on the Sleeping Giant Gas Project where the Company has rights to approximately 120,000 net acres of exploratory leases. The Company maintains a 100% working interest in the Well. It is anticipated that three additional wells may be drilled on other large prospects mapped over the Sleeping Giant Gas Project later this year following successful production testing of this Well.

A Note to the Granddaughters

Each day our older granddaughter and I cover five subjects in 30 - 120 minutes/day depending on how much free time she has during the summer, on any given day.  We touch on all five subjects each day, but we focus longer on one subject each day. The subjects: math, reading, sciences, social sciences, and art.

Yesterday was "social sciences" day. Generally she pulls down the voluminous National Geographic Atlas and picks a country at random. Yesterday, she chose Australia and Oceania. I now know the seven states and/or "territories" of the island continent (Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, and Western Australia; Australian Capital Territory, and the Northern Territory), the state/territory capitals, and the national capital.

We also learned the history of "commonwealth," and learned there are four commonwealth states in the United States: Massachusetts, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. We have ties to three; when she includes one of her girl friends, we have ties to all four.

With Oceania, my wife will now have a whole new category for "Facts in Five." I was reminded of all this because in the Strata-X press release above, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, was in the byline.

  1. when the well completion is done , and they run a initial flare to check flow volumes, it would be interesting to see, as to how high and strong of a flare they get. don

    1. Hopefully some farmers in the area take some photos and post them on Facebook. All of a sudden, it's getting very exciting again.

  2. Is there a way to see on a map exactly where the well is?

  3. They produce investors, not gas.

The flare would, if it existed, be enough to light a cigarette.

I accidentally stumbled into two message boards that are very active and optimistic. I was impressed by the theory, that after the election, the new Republican Governor of Illinois would allow fracking, and this outfit would then drill deep wells that make everyone rich.

No money to drill, but ....
