Yes, that issue (fracking and earthquakes) is the newest wrinkle.
ReplyDeleteI blew it off -- after all, I thought earthquakes were associated with tectonic plates which would be a lot deeper -- so I was surprised when some operators/drillers actually said there might be something to it.
What amazes me is that underground nuclear weapon testing in Nevada didn't precipitate earthquakes in California. And I can guarantee you that underground nuclear weapon testing has a bit more explosive power than fracking.
Again, for me, it's a non-issue.
With regard to 22205, Ballard Petroleum, Haskins 11-27.
ReplyDeleteBallard has three wells/file numbers in North Dakota. One is a well they acquired after it was drilled; in the Little Knife field, a Duperow well, and a good one.
There two new wells are wildcats; they are not in a designated field, but one is just a mile west of the Glenburn field; the other one, the Haskins, is in the next township to the southeast.
The Glenburn is a Madison field. I would be very, very surprised if these two wells weren't targeting the Madison.
If there is no "H" designation, that would make sense. Madison wells are conventional and are not fracked.
Anonymous says Madison wells in Montana (Richland, Sheridan counties) were fracked as early as the 1980s.

ReplyDeleteNot just three forks but I have 3 years of data on upto 36 wells from their Bakken play in 153-91. They start out at 16,000 to 40,000 per month, then drop to 4,500 per month within 3 months of production. (bopm)One well #16731.

ReplyDeleteThe Bakken decline rate is horrendous, well-known, and an on-going topic of discussion.
My understanding is that the oil companies are trying to slow the decline rate; in addition, workovers and re-fracs might help; and then, of course, there is talk of enhanced oil recovery.

ReplyDeleteFrom the conference calls (during earnings season), some of the bigger players address the horrendous decline rate and, believe me, they are more frustrated with it than I think most folks realize.
But I have a lot of faith in the Bakken as a research laboratory, and my hunch is that things will gradually improve.
