The sermon for the day:

The Williston Basin holds the distinction of being among the earliest consistent producers of shale oil resources in the United States. Oil was first discovered in the basin in 1936, and the region became a major oil province in the 1950s with the discovery of large fields in North Dakota.

Production initially peaked in 1986, but significant increases in production began in the early 2000s due to the application of horizontal drilling techniques, especially in the Bakken Formation.

A myriad of successful drilling and completion methodologies took root and were developed within the context of the Williston Basin, and these have since been adopted and implemented nationwide.

In its nascent production phase, it constituted the highest production yield from unconventional resource basins in the United States.

As of June 2023, the Williston Basin continues to be a significant player in the United States’ oil production landscape, ranking as the second-largest producing region in the country, surpassed only by the Permian Basin.
