ND No Longer #2 But Carbon Projects Help Offset Sting -- Lynn Helms -- September 18, 2021

Link here to Williston Herald

Oil prices:

  • Clearbrook: WTI + $0.05
  • Cushing (WTI): $71.60
  • LSS: WTI + $1.62
  • Brent: WTI +$3.29 ($74.89)

Crude oil production by state in very, very round numbers, bopd, 2020, link here:

  • in a league by itself:
    • Texas: 5 million bopd
  • it is what it is
    • GofM: 1.7 million bopd
  • bragging rights for #2 among states; both could see significant increase if price is right (and only if ND can attract fracking spreads);
    • NM: 1 million bopd
    • ND: 1 million bopd
  • next five:
    • Alaska: 0.5 million (iffy)
    • CO: 0.5 million (will struggle to do much more -- too many faux environmentalists)
    • OK: 0.5 million (probably maxed out)
    • CA: 0.4 million (iffy going forward, but no one cares)
    • WY: 0.3 (lots of talk but pretty marginal)
  • not one other state produces more than 0.1 million bopd; a handful of states produce 75,000 bopd
  • most surprising:
    • UT: with upwards of three trillion in reserves, produces all of 87,000 bbs oil per day; North Dakota produces that much every two hours;
  • sleeper?
    • LA? only 95,000 bopd but oil-friendly state and operators getting interested; it's hard to believe the Texas miracle stops at the state line.
