ERCOT is an embarrassment of Texas. Did some calculating, my Honda EU2000 could have produced ~36 KWH in a 24 hour day, figure a about $300 net after paying for the gasoline to run it. Something wrong with this picture....
Then a bunch of directors of ERCOT quit once the poop hit the fan. IMHO they should have their pay clawed back because of their lack of responsible planning for this event.
NE ISO pays backup coal electricity generators to keep them on standby for peak winter loads. Only used a few times a year during severe cold spells.
Root cause is that there was not sufficient reliable backup to the green energy providers wind and solar energy, plus lack of fuel due to NG deliveries and piles of coal that froze.
Now fabs will take another look of locating in Texas due to power problems. Samsung lost a bunch of $$$s having to shut down.

Yes, much could be said. Texas is an interesting state; long history of shenanigans.
