This explains the 11% gain on Thursday, which is about 3 times normal.
ReplyDeleteThe MRO wells in the Bakken are simply amazing. Not sure if they are making any money -- LOL -- but they certainly have the Bakken figured out.
DeleteI've updated the production data:

Mr Oksol, very gladd to see you still operating your very important website!
ReplyDeleteYear after year of the most detailed information on the Bakken play. By the way, the Williston Herald has also excellent coverage of the North Dakota Oil and Gas Industry.
My previous comment referred to MRO stock gain, however, my observation is a month in arrears. Nevertheless, the stock did gain about 13% in three days of trading, following your thread of March 3.
If Marathon Oil can not go positive free cash flow with $60 p/b goo, they should sell their holdings to the highest bidder.
Hear is a wonderful article about the Bakken Play, if one needs a chuckle or two.

That's pretty funny about "desmog." If one didn't know better one would think "DeSmog" is the face and voice of the Bakken, the official site of the Bakken. When one googles / Go Duck Go for Bakken oil, "DeSmog" can take the first fifty hits. Powerful entities and deep pockets must be funding "DeSmog." I assume of lot of their "news articles" and "press releases" find their way to "legitimate" web sites.
DeleteThank you for your kind words, as always. MRO remains a fascinating, fascinating operator in the Bakken.
Mr Oksol, I use quack/quack go and in the first page I found not linkies to "DeSmog." https://duckduckgo.com/?t=lm&q=bakken+oil&ia=web
ReplyDeleteI did find a negative piece on Forbes, which is now a longtime failing business magazine.
Regarding the "Desmog" link, which focus mainly on enviro issues, they did quote this rather interesting statement from Wood/MacKenzie:
"In June, oil and gas industry analysts at Wood MacKenzie highlighted this discrepancy in remaining core acreage between the Permian and the Bakken. According to Wood MacKenzie, the top quarter of remaining oil well inventory in the Permian would result in over 8,000 new wells. For the Bakken, however, the analysts put that number at 333 wells."
What is meant by "remaining oil well inventory?" It seems to suggest that there are no more drilling site available in the Bakken Play. If so, I am very disappointed by the annalist, unless it is wells waiting completion.
- Hans Nieder
It all depends on the price of oil. If WTI trends toward $100-oil, there will be another boom in the Bakken. If this Wood MacKenzie study was based on $20 oil, their analysis might not be far off.
DeleteIt will be fascinating to watch this play out.
