Perhaps St Greta Can Explain This -- June 4, 2020

Charting Sweden's disastrous no-lockdown strategy, link here.

Corona virus update for Sweden, link here.

From yesterday, for comparison, Norway reported 22 new cases, and no new deaths.

But look at these graphics.

Sweden, new cases:

New deaths:

Sweden is in a very tough spot. Their "health director" says their response to Covid-9 failed, previously reported -- yesterday, I believe.

Now with this huge spike in new cases, new deaths, and a per capita rate exceeding countries like Canada, Sweden needs to re-think their strategy. It will be interesting to see what comes of this.

  1. Frankly, I'm not seeing it. Sweden has a higher death rate than the US, but the highest in the world? And I'm not sure what a higher death rate actually means. It seems like everyone has their own definition. But there are plenty of countries with a higher per capita death rate. If you really want a bad statistic, figure the death rate per capita for NYC borough compared to Sweden. Queens is 4X higher.

    1. You are absolutely correct. I was a bit skeptical of the results but whether Sweden is first, second, third or worse, it certainly did not live up to the meme that their strategy was the best strategy.

Right now, throwing out San Marino, Belgium and Andorra, Sweden is #4 behind UK, Spain and Italy. The rates in these four countries (death per capita) that on the date the article was published it may have been accurate (throwing out San Marino, Belgium and Andorra).

Most recent complete results (again, throwing out San Marino, Belgium, and Andorra), Sweden is #4; the USA is #9; Denmark is #25; Finland is #34; and, Norway is #43. The world average sits between #41 and #42.

The interesting thing about Queens, if Queens is still part of NYC and if Queens was part of the draconian lock down mandated by the state and city, what can one say when its death rate is 4X higher than Sweden's?

  2. Yes, NYC (plus the surrounding states) instituted a draconian lock down, but they never shut down the entire northeast mass-transit corridor. They just let it die-off (very slowly) on its own.

If you compare every state from MA to Maryland and also include DOC, they all top the chart in terms of cases and deaths per MM compared to the rest of the world. It seems pretty clear the northeast transit system seeded the entire area and nobody seems to really talk about it. My guess is that it's embarrassing to both parties, and then of course, the major networks are headquartered in NYC, so they want to avoid the subject too.

    1. I think that's exactly correct. Much could be said.

  3. Yes much could be said if anyone posting here had any profound knowledge about the virus and in particular how. It spreads. Since no one does, all the opinions posted here are just wild speculation. North east transit sector is as good a guess as anyone else. Keep on cranking out the wild theory's. it's good fun and who knows, you may hit the jackpot.

    1. I think what amazes me most is that this virus appears to be completely different from every pathogenic virus previously discovered. It is the first virus to the best of my knowledge, for example, that can be stopped completely by simply wearing cloth masks, and folks staying six feet apart. Also, very remarkably, the virus does not cause any deaths on Sunday in Sweden.
