If accurate, I'm amazed the local press or the regional press has not picked up on the story. I got the link from a reader.
A $150 million dollar casino built a few miles from any town in ND would make State news. I wonder why the County commissioners didn't comment on this and also wondering why the Turtle Mountain tribe didn't include or invite the press to the groundbreaking? Maybe they did and no one showed up. I'm sure the county commission isn't very happy since it appears they have little control of the situation since it is on tribal land, no building permits or liquor permits needed from the county. But it is still some very big news that was worthy of some media coverage in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI'm quite surprised it has not been reported elsewhere, which makes me wonder about the "rest of the story" -- though there may be no "rest of the story." It may be exactly that.
DeleteHaving said that, I think the proposed location can be seen on the GIS map server, section 30-154-102, the northeast quadrant. It's on the south side of the highway; BEXP (Statoil) headquarters is on the north side of the highway.
yes, and also said east of Stat Oil. My guess is at the controlled light intersection where the "temporary" bypass is located. Since the tribe is offering to help pay to extend the 4 lane, it will probably be up to the controlled light intersection. The area south of the intersection is not an established road, so my guess is it will go somewhere on the south side of the intersection. That would make sense to build near an intersection with signaled lights if you are going to have 300 employees plus hundreds of customers coming and going to the casino and hotel. You add an outlet mall, you might even see a thousand + vehicles a day coming and going through that area to add to the already heavy oil field traffic on that stretch of highway.
