Nineteen (19) New Permits -- North Dakota; CLR Reports Five Producing Wells Completed -- Unremarkable Results; August 1, 2014

Updates

August 2, 2014: a reader (see comments below) suggests the "second formation" targeted could be the Madison formation. This could be very, very interesting.

Original Post

Among the new permits today (see below), note the MRO permit:
  • 29028, conf, MRO, Glenn Powell 21-3TH,  wildcat, Slope
This well will target the Tyler formation; it will be sited about four (4) miles directly north of another MRO Tyler well:
  • 26335, drl, MRO, Powell 31-27TH
The "TH" designation: Tyler Horizontal
A Three Forks would be designated "TFH."

Another thing: note "Unknown MXL" (in red bold below) in the MRO Tyler well in the scout ticket posted below at the NDIC web site:

  1. Not sure if you missed it or not, but one of those MRO permits is for a Tyler (presumably) well in Slope County in the vicinity of the two others MRO has already drilled.

    1. Thank you for catching that. Yes, indeed, I did miss that and it was staring me right in the face. It was a wildcat and the "TH" designation means Tyler Horizontal.

This well will be about 4 miles directly north of another MRO Tyler well currently on DRL status:
26335, DRL, MRO, Powell 31-27TH, Wildcat, Slope County.

Thank you for noting that. I will note that in the past.

  2. The second pool is very likely Madison. There is an old well about 5 miles NE of this well that showed strong indication of a Madison pool in the area. It is actually on my family's land and I have the drilling logs for the well.
Also the production shown is before it was fracked. It was only fracked about 3 weeks ago and there is a pump on it now. It will be interesting to see if it is producing anything now.

    1. Much appreciated. This may or may not be something "new" in the Bakken. Rarely, I see wels that are producing from multiple formations; generally the wells have entered the different rotations at different times, generally years apart. It will be interesting to see if the scout ticket reports production from two formations, the Madison and the Tyler.

Thank you very much for providing this very interesting nugget of information; very much appreciated.
