Pembroke Oil Field

Updates

June 23, 2013: G3 Operating will report a nice well tomorrow in Pembroke:
  • 24220, conf, G3 Operating, Berg Trust Federal 1-26-35H,  Pembroke,
Original Post

The Pembroke oil field is a 5 x 6 section rectangular oil field in northeastern McKenzie County, near the sweet spots that include the Grail oil field. Every section has at least one Bakken horizontal. Pembroke is notable/important because of the KOG Smokey wells.

The 1280-spacing unit, sections 18/19, gives one an idea how many horizontals they will eventually place in the better Bakken. These five horizontals appear to "take up" less than 50% of the spacing unit. Thus, easily 10 horizontal wells in just the middle Bakken and the Upper Three Forks (TF1).

The three wells coming from the south:
  • 21393, 1,950, KOG, Smokey 15-7-19-15H, t12/12; cum 57K 4/13;
  • 21392, 1,466, KOG, Smokey 15-7-19-15H3, t12/12; cum 39K 4/13;
The two wells coming from the north:
  • 23794, drl, KOG, Smokey 3-30-18-2H3,
  • 23795, drl, KOG, Smokey 3-30-18-3HA,
  • 23797, drl, KOG, Smokey 3-30-18-3H3,
See KOG's Smokey wells in the Pembroke oil field.

Newfield has nice wells in this field, including:

  • 19808, 2,461, Newfield, Malm 149-98-11-2-1H, t5/11; cum 168K 4/13;

North Dakota's Workers Compensation Agency To Rebate Refunds

The Bismarck Tribune is reporting:
Workforce Safety and Insurance will distribute the premium credits to about 22,000 employers throughout the state. They are the latest in a series of eight payouts to employers since 2005 that have totaled more than $774 million.
WSI board member Ed Grossbauer said the payments mean employers in good standing will end up paying half their normal premium.
I don't follow Workers Comp but I was told that it is highly unusual for refunds to be made; generally, the rates are just cut until the books "balance," as it were. I don't know.

But, it seems, the bigger story is how well roughnecks looks out for each other in the field. The oil patch has to be the most dangerous place to work in North Dakota, similar to some dangerous aspects of farming and working around heavy machinery. I would assume premiums are based on actuarial studies from across the nation and on North Dakota's "comp" history. Unless I'm missing something, this sounds like another huge story coming out of North Dakota, and out of the oil patch.

Bowline Oil Field

Early on (over two years ago, April 14, 2011) I talked about True Oil and Red Wing Creek oil field. I learned a lot from readers.

After that initial post, there wasn't much written about True Oil, but recently True Oil is back in the news, acquiring leases and permits in Bowline oil field. Bowline is a 14-section field, L-shaped, and southeast/abutting Red Wing Creek. It's hard to believe that there are NO producing wells in seven of those 14 sections; and in four of those sections, a well has never even been drilled. There have been at least two dry holes: one Madison, and one Red River (both drilled a long, long time ago). The field is in central McKenzie County, a bit outside the typical sweet spots in northeastern McKenzie County.

It is amazing how quickly things can move once an operator gets excited to start developing a field.

Case 19603, True, amend Red Wing Creek and Bowline Fields to create a 1600-acre unit for the Bowline-Bakken; up to 7 wells on that unit, McKenzie: a 1600-acre spacing unit for the Bowline-Bakken Pool consisting of Sections 2 and 11, T.147N., R.101W., and the S½ of Section 35, T.148N., R.101W:

A Military Diversion

From the Daily Dot:
If you thought that "Quidditching" was dead, think again.
The Harry Potter-inspired meme—participants jump up in the air while holding a broom in between their legs to make it look like they're flying—appears to be making a resurgence amongst members of the United States armed forces.
The following images were posted on "Boys Boots 'n Booze," a Tumblr run by a self-described "North Carolina girl who likes her trucks big and dirty, and her boys and drinks strong."
