Whiting/KOG's P Wood Wells

Note: these P Wood wells are also followed in Truax oil field. It's possible IPs and production numbers have been updated at the Truax oil field.

Updates

September 28, 2019: I've updated the production data for a handful of the wells below; these are somewhat disappointing wells; they all need to be re-fracked using new completion techniques.

December 10, 2018: production numbers and new wells have been updated below. See "GIS Map Server" graphics updates at bottom of post (scroll down).

KOG's Q13 earnings press release.

Note: KOG has two pilot projects; 12 wells in one spacing unit; Polar Pilot Project (Williams County) or the Smokey Pilot Project (McKenzie County); all wells in these two projects will have a 28-stage fracture; 4 million lbs ceramic proppant;

GIS Map Server Updates

October 27, 2014: We won't know exactly where the horizontals of the new permits will go for quite some time (#29810, #29811, #29812, and #29813) but we do know they will be sited in the SESW quadrant of 22-158-94. So just for the fun of it, I've drawn in where I think the horizontals will go; I could be very wrong, but if correct these are particularly interesting due to the SE-NW horizontals already crossing in sections 22/15-158-94:

  1. The 26-35 and 27-34 wells are in the 2 section, 1280 acre spacings straddling the north south adjacent sections. The new well 15-23 designations don't make sense, as the section south of 15 is 22. Same if 23-35 or 23-15 designations are for sections. I don't get it. Ideas?

    1. I assume one could go back the hearing dockets and match up these permits with the spacing unit, but that takes a lot of time. I generally just wait until the well file is posted.

      Part of the answer is that some of the P Wood wells are stand-up horizontals, running directly north-south (or laydowns, running directly east-west). However, the new P Wood permits are in an area where earlier wells were laid down northwest to southeast, starting in a section northwest of the section where the horizontal ended.

      However, making it more difficult: some of the drilling units might be overlapping 2560-acre units. The sections in the Truax are now being spaced both as 1280- and 2560-acre.

      If no one else gets around to, sometime when I have nothing else to do, I might look at the completed P Wood wells and see not only how they are spaced, but what formations they targeted and compare that with their nomenclature.

    2. As you can see above, I did go through the files of the completed P Wood wells and noted the the formation listed on the "frack sundry sheet."

      "Bakken" was simply "Bakken." I assume these were middle Bakken.

      Most "Three Forks" were not further identified as to whether it was the upper Three Forks or one of the lower benches. In one case, the formation was referred to as the "middle Three Forks," perhaps the second bench, i.e., the bench under the upper Three Forks.
