ReplyDeleteI don't see the Keystone XL 2.0 as having winners or losers, politically. I've moved on. And for the 2% of the US population that actually follows the story, I think 90% of those 2% have also moved on. For those 90% of the 2% that follow the story, they "know" that it's going to be approved one way or the other. Time to move on. [98% of the US population haven't even heard of the Keystone XL 2.0 and if the have, 90% don't care.]
DeleteMy feelings about the Keystone continue to evolve. I suppose this is the evolution:
1. Initially, I didn't even write about the Keystone. It did not interest me. In addition, I had no dog in that fight.
2. Now I write too much about the Keystone. But it's one of the few topics that generates comments, and tells me that others are interested in the Keystone, even if I was not.
3. Over time, I became interested in the story, as a political story, but still no skin in the game.
4. Now, with certain investments, I have skin in the game and am interested in the Keystone from an investment point of view. Politically, my interest in the Keystone has waned even as my interest in the Keystone from an investment point of view has waxed.
5. Today, this is where I stand with regard to the Keystone in March, 2013: I have skin in the game with regard to takeaway capacity so I am interested in the Keystone from an investment point of view. I have become a bit more interested in the story politically because I have fears that the Keystone XL 2.0 will be approved by the President but as part of a compromise in the energy industry that I would prefer not to see.
So, some folks will still see the Keystone XL 2.0 as a political passion play, but for me, I've moved on. I see it as an investment story. But that doesn't mean I won't occasionally get trapped into the political discussion.
