  1. Thank goodness OXY didn't own the most acreage and wasn't the poster child of the Bakken. If it were, there may be no Bakken.

What do you expect from a company who's headquarters are in California, the land of fruits and nuts.

    1. It really is strange, isn't it? But any production holds the lease, as long as the well is producing. Perhaps they are simply managing their assets; choking back, pending better prices.

  2. Watching Whiting work Big Island. I believe they have found what part of the Red River they should be looking at. I see the Katherine Well in the Camel Hump, In Dec pumped for 19 days and Whiting sold 8329 which is 438 bopd. Riechoff is still doing 302 bopd. These wells are only half mile from each other.

    1. You are absolutely correct. I don't mean to make light of this, but one has to chuckle: Whiting is doing better with one rig targeting the Red River than OXY seems to be doing with several rigs targeting the Bakken.

  3. Occidental Petroleum is an outlier when it comes to E&P. When you look at its founder Armand Hammer a Russian immigrant who always had a fondness for Russia even under the Soviet system it becomes clear where they come from. Another interesting thing about OXY is Al Gore's father was part of Occidental before he became Senator.

The company has been known for incubating people with strange ideas so their performance with the new technology of oil and gas extraction is not surprising. Really they are stuck and are more comfortable with the old vertical style of drilling for oil extraction. With them stuck mostly in California I see them declining further along with their home state.
