  1. If that's a Whiting permit for a well in South Heart that would be interesting. I don't think Whiting has ever gone that far south.

    1. Yes, you are correct. It will be a Whiting "Pronghorn Prospect" horizontal well in section 29 of T140N-R97W, in South Heart. You are correct; this is as far south as Whiting has been in this boom (at least on a quick look of the map) but it is exactly in the area of their Pronghorn Prospect.

      But this is of interest: in that very same section:

      #7203. A Whiting well that was spud in 1979; tested 11/13/1979, and still active (33 years?). It is a vertical well that targeted the Heath (Tyler) and had an IP of 347 bbls. This well has produced 642,626 bbls of oil since 1979; has produced absolutely no natural gas; had a total depth of 8,120 feet (relatively shallow).

      So, Whiting was in North Dakota back in 1979 drilling Heath wells in this area. Again, 643K barrels; still producing after 33 years, and producing about 800 bbls/month. And has been producing about 800 - 1000 bbls/month since 2005 -- almost no decline rate over the last few years.

      There are other Heath wells in the area but most are abandoned. Another one, #5500, spud in 1974; last produced in 1984, produced 486,715 bbls from the Heath. (Operator: South Heart Company; well: George 1-29.)

      It doesn't quit: there's another Heath well in the area, still active, #9759, has produced 796,699 bbls to date.

      Enough for now.

    2. Error in comment above: the permit is #7230, not #7203.

      For more "monster wells" targeting the Heath/Tyler and other formations, see sidebar at the right.

    1. Thank you. I will post the link at the Legacy page (linked at the sidebar at the right) for future reference. Legacy, like everyone else, predicts that the WTI-Brent spread will narrow as pipeline/rail costs drop in 2013.

    1. Yes, I assume this was in the December, 2012, dockets:

      http://www.milliondollarwayblog.com/2012/11/the-december-dockets.html

      19331, Hunt, extend West Ambrose, Musta, and/or Smoky Butte-Bakken, establish 18 1280-acre units; one well each, Divide;

      At the linked site, I put that note in bold. That was just one of hundreds of dockets. Can you imagine all the stories that could be written about each one of those cases? It's nice to see this story expanded in the Crosby paper.

      Thank you for taking time to write; I would not have seen the story.

  5. Thank you. I thought I had posted that story last week, but I guess I decided not to. If I posted it, I can't find it now. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

  6. Kind of a bummer, the Vincent PNC. One half mile from my house and my name on it!!! Oh well.

    1. Yes, that is a bummer. Not a lot of activity in this area, but eventually they will be drilling this area. Good luck.
