North Dakota’s taxable sales and purchases were up $1.2 billion in the third quarter.
Sales
tax collections in the state for July, August and September were $6.735
billion this year, a 22.4 percent increase over last year.
Thirteen of 15 industries reported sales tax growth during the third
quarter. The retail sector, which reflects consumer confidence, reported
a gain of 13.1 percent compared to third quarter last year. Wholesale
trade, which reflects spending by businesses, was up 30.7 percent.
The
utilities sector had the largest percentage increase of 55.7 percent.
Construction grew by 46.1 percent and financial, insurance, real estate,
rental and leasing grew 35.5 percent.
