Original Post

In section 36-148-93, there are fourteen (14) wells. The two "original" wells were on single wells pads. The next twelve wells were on four 3-well pads. 23309 - 23314 are to the north; 23303 - 23308 parallel the ones to the north; they run west to east (or east to west). The horizontals will pretty much be straight north/south.

  1. With the small numbers from the preexisting wells, what do you think they're seeing that warrants so many more wells on the same property?

    1. QEP wells -- IPs: huge; 20K in first month after completion;
      #21219, WPX: 80K in first two - three months after completion.

  2. Mocassin Creek has been approved to extend the stratigraphic limit of the Bakken Pool down to the Bird Bear formation..... This happened a couple of weeks ago...

    1. Thank you.

      My assumption is that once one field is approved, it makes it difficult not to approve other fields (on scientific grounds).

      Then, there is the issue of where oil companies will drill first: redefined fields or those fields where things are still "up in the air."

    1. Thank you. For newbies, this refers to the case before the NDIC to redefine the stratigraphic limits of Moccasin Field.

  4. These plans are the beginning of the manufacturing phase, All those sections held by production....with even very low IP...didnt matter, and now we are seeing the unfolding of what this Bakken is all about...believe Bruce saw it the other day, 1200 acre spacing will not be subdivided 39 times...long & short laterals from single pads at variable depth in multiple directions, thats what this is going to be all about.

    1. You are absolutely correct. For newbies, the writer is not suggesting that the spacing units will be redefined to 39 acres. But if an operator puts in 32 wells in a 1280-acre spacing unit (multiple levels, multiple horizontals) one gets an effective 40-acre spacing.
