Federal Agents Raid Gun Shop, Find Weapons

Okay.

I assume if they had raided a pet shop, they might have found puppies. Certainly tropical fish.

What can I say?

I will say this: I have to remember to visit the Montana Headlines blog site more often. Great observations; typical western dry humor. The stuff I grew up, but never got good at. The link will take you to the headline.

Montana Headlines is great for those wishing to follow events in Montana from someone who really seems to have the pulse of the state. I particularly enjoy his cultural miscellany, maybe more on that later. Most impressive, Brad Anderson seems to write on politics in a much less heavy-handed way than I do. I would think even those who he does not endorse or support would enjoy reading his notes.

I was surprised to see that the Billings Gazette endorsed Mr Romney.  I don't know why I'm surprised; I guess I just thought mainstream media would endorse the incumbent. It will be interesting to see which candidate the North Dakota regional newspapers endorse for president.

  1. That is funny! Thanks Bruce. We need more laughter!

  2. I live on the Oregon Coast. I see Mitt Romney signs everywhere. So many small businesses have closed their doors for good! Very sad to see! Think many are very frustrated with the current administration! Maybe the government can buy the beautiful building that stands empty and turn it into an RV Park. Just saying. It's on the 101 hwy!

    1. As I've said many times, this is an easy election: if one is happy how the country is doing and where it is headed, vote for the incumbent; if not, ....

  3. Mitt Romney is just the second republican endorsed by the Billings Gazette this election season (out of about eight or nine races). I believe the reason for the endorsement is that the most recent poll here in Montana shows Romney at 49%, Obama at 35%, and 10% undecided.

Montana hasn't seen any Presidential campaign ads. So Montanans have made up their minds based on the results we've seen over the past four years. Obama will be beat by a wide margin (though he was within 3 or 4% last time).

    1. I assume the Gazette endorsed Mr Obama when he ran the first time?

    2. I don't remember. If they endorsed McCain, no doubt they spoke glowingly about Obama as well. The Gazette staff is far more liberal than the general population here.

    3. Thank you. I had almost forgotten who ran against Obama; it seems like it has been an eternity. Smile. Thank you for taking time to write.

  4. The Billings Gazette endorsed Obama in 2008. It was shaping up to be the first competitive Presidential race since Bill Clinton won a three-way race against a very unpopular President G.H.W. Bush.

As I pointed out in a recent post at Montana Headlines (October 10, 2012), the Gazette has a very specific strategy for their endorsements. They endorse a one or two Republicans every time so they can't be accused of never endorsing Republicans. They endorse one or two Republicans that are sure to win easily. Romney fit the bill this session. In hotly contested races such as our U.S. Senate and Governor races -- I'd be shocked if the Gazette endorsed a Republican. And they won't.

    1. For the time being, maybe "forever," I moved the link to your site higher up on the sidebar at the right to make it easier for me to go to it. Really enjoy it. Thank you. Particularly the cultural miscellany. I tried that in my original blog, but folks didn't like it interspersed with energy articles. The way you set up your weekly agenda is very clever.

  5. Well, I'm honored! Back when I was throwing in cultural things randomly, I used to get some crabby responses, but now that everyone knows when to look for what they want, I don't anymore. I don't have as big a readership as when I was a daily and more or less exclusively political blog, but that's OK with me -- there's also no fighting going on in the comment threads anymore.

Your readers might get confused if they want to find out about new wells and click on the first link only to say "huh?" But maybe they'll like what they see and not complain -- you'll find out soon enough...

    1. I personally find a break from all the oil news to be very, very refreshing.

With regard to readership, I look at it this way. I started the blog to help me keep track of what was going on in the Bakken and to help me understand it. HTML was the best application and I originally had planned to keep it to myself but I thought others might be interested. But I do find it rewarding to know that folks are reading it.

Many folks come to a site through "google," and be writing about non-Bakken subjects, I'm sure others find my site and come back to it periodically, if they like it.
