Lynn Helms, director of the state Department of Mineral Resources, said the increase from about 575,000 barrels at present would depend on a strong global economy, steady oil prices and a favorable federal regulatory climate.

Eagle Ford production in Texas will grow even faster than the Bakken, so Texas will likely produce well over 2 mill barrels/day by 2015. The Permian Basin production is also growing because of horizontal drilling. Texas' production will become monstrous.

DeleteBut recently there are stories about infrastructure issues south of San Antonio. There's more to this than just drilling.
But I agree with you. North Dakota will not take the #1 spot away from Texas. But just the fact that a public official says this is very interesting on a number of levels.
