Why I Love to Blog -- Reason #532

Not too long ago I asked folks to send me reports of any Bakken (Williston Basin) wells that had produced more than 40,000 bbls/month.

Today, "Old Oil" alerted me to "the original Lodgepole well" in the Dickinson vicinity.
  • 13447, 419, ConocoPhillips, Dickinson-Lodgepole Unit 74, Dickinson, s11/92; t2/93; F; cum 2.9 million bbls 11/11;
Record months of production for this well: 06/1993 -- 53,000 bbls; 07/199 -- 51,000 bbls.

This well is still producing in excess of 4,000 bbls of oil per month.

But notice something else: no pump. Still flowing without a pump.

See other monster wells at my "Monster Wells" page.

  1. Bruce - have you researched the Dawson bay wells in the dolphin field north of tioga? There were some nice wells there in the late 80's. Not 40000 bbls/month but consistent ~20000 bbls/month for several months.

    1. Thank you. I will do that. Thank you for the tip.

      Wow, that's an irregular-shaped field, and I see one Dawson well, still active, has a cumulative of 1.23 million bbls. Spud in 1987, it's only 24 years old -- although its production is way down now -- but holding the lease by production. Pretty incredible. One more example that the Williston Basin is much more than just the Bakken -- and it was a vertical well.
