North Dakota has reached a new record in daily oil production and could soon surpass California as the No. 3 oil-producing state in the nation.
Department of Mineral Resources Director Lynn Helms said numbers released Thursday show daily production for the state in July reached 423,550 barrels. This is an increase of 40,000 barrels more per day compared to June.
Oil production numbers typically lag at least two months
Helms says at the current rate, North Dakota could surpass California by the end of the year.
with 5 months left in this reporting cycle, ( text say it was July number) the increase per month would have to average more than 23,000 BO . So does that mean after jan/feb then ND could be second??
I was surprised that the writer did not notice that there is little difference between 540,000 (California) and 550,000 (Alaska). An average Bakken well will produce 10,000 bbls the first month.
By the way, Alaska production below 600,000 threatens the viability of the pipeline up there; I can't remember if the threshold was 600,000 or 300,000 but either way, Alaska has some issues to deal with. And, of course, winter is just around the corner.

ReplyDeleteYou are correct.

California and Alaska will be eating our truck dust by December.
ReplyDeleteI think the big story here will be legislators in two states (Alaska and California) demanding to know why they fell behind North Dakota.
ReplyDeleteTheir constitutents will want to know.
That's the real story.
