Presidential Bus Made in Canada -- Not a Bakken Story.

I can't make this stuff up.

Photo and caption:
Stop the presses! President Obama, champion of American jobs and lower taxes, is touring this great nation in a $1.1-million luxury tour bus—built in CANADA!
Actually, I don't get: "lower taxes." Obama? Hardly.

And "champion of American jobs." The Obama permitorium, have we forgotten? Hardly.

Link here.

I haven't seen the carbon footprint reported for this.

It should be noted that my iPad is not made in the US either.

If you google "presidential bus Canada," this site is the third site down on front page to show up. One of the purposes of this site is to educate folks about the Bakken, and unrelated stories often bring in new readers.

  1. It's been a few years but I used to work with a guy whose wife had a bus tour company. She was buying two slightly customed buses. Basically more leg room than a motorcoach, a higher passenger seating area which allows for more underbellyh luggage and some removeable seats that can be replaced with a "lounge" with a couch and table. The clients were mostly elderly women who went on long trips. The "lounge reduced seating but was let people socialize en route and occasionally clients had to lay down for a while.

Anyway, this was six or seven years ago and th two manufacturer were VanHool of Holland and Provost. She got a pair of VanHools at $450K each. Nice, but nothing really custom.

It looks like they paid $550K each for the basic buses. That is not bad. I saw the rear double axle. They probably wanted to put in Kevlar armor and at least some bullet proof glass. This all adds weight so they probably got the heaviest frame and suspension they could.

The customization was done in the US. The choice of a black color looks sinister. A Twin Cities company, 3M corporation makes the huge "adwraps" seen on buses (like Sarah Palin's) and our light rail cars. They are basically giant "static cling" plastic sheets printed with a giant ink jet printer. The black base color might work bestfor this.
