Despite Global Warming Almost 700 New Islands Discovered Worldwide

It was my understanding that disappearance of oceanic islands was a foregone conclusion due to global warming.

I had trouble finding a good source to link anything that would support that "belief." This was about the best I could do.

Meanwhile, researchers from Duke University and Meredith College, Raleigh, North Carolina, have discovered 657 new islands this past year.
The researchers identified a total of 2,149 barrier islands worldwide using satellite images, topographical maps and navigational charts. The new total is significantly higher than the 1,492 islands identified in a 2001 survey conducted without the aid of publicly available satellite imagery.
As a reminder, the trend line for global warming is 0.145 degrees per decade. Over the next ten years, it is expected that the average global temperature will rise 0.145 degrees.

By the way, just for the fun of it, the worse heat wave on record in the history of the United States was 1936. The 1936 heat wave has its own Wikipedia page. I don't  think global warming was an issue then.

  1. I always love the global warming debate. After yesterday I wonder how they can explain to me if we really are warming up. Why was it 30 degrees colder yesterday then exactly a year ago? Just a thought.

  2. I agree. And the global warming folks generally don't allow open discussion.

  3. Not sure who you are stating that "the global warming folks" are or who is "not allowing open discussion". I am not an expert in this area myself but from what I can tell, the overwhelming scientific conclusion in the open literature is that man made climate change is happening and to some extent it can be minimized. Has science been wron in the past? Yes it has. But it has also been right in gthe past. To me, the only debate is a political one and not scientific and thsat is whether to try to reduce the man made contribution or to let nature take its course. If you think that the global warming proponents have a weak case, then the global warming opponents have an even (much) weaker case if all that is being stated is anecdotal temp chanes and accusations of bias on the part of the proponents. There is a compelling case to be made to follow the science. A wrong decision means that some money hasbeen spent that didnt need to be spent. On the other hand the consequenses of a mistake by failing to recognize lobal warming could be far more drastic. To put it another way, we buy insurance to reduce risk and the same could apply here.
