"We're up to 151 rigs at 3:10 pm pacific time."

The quote from a reader -- and I just checked and that's absolutely accurate: a new record -- 151 active rigs in North Dakota.

A big thank you to the reader in California!

  1. You're welcome. I like to keep you up to date! :) I see you have the 153 rig count now. It is amazing. It's like they are on some massive rush to get as many rigs going as possible. Get them in place before they put a stop to fracking - hope not.

  2. The fracking issue is a big enough and serious enough concern to have the NDIC home page alert us to it.

However, I personally think, ironically, it will be a red state (or is it a blue state -- I get them mixed up) -- whatever -- it will be a state like Pennsylvania that will be the battleground (home of the Marcellus). Pennsylvania is in much bigger budget trouble than North Dakota. I think Harrisburg is essentially broke. Oil tax revenue for Pennsylvania is critical. So, although I am concerned, I honestly feel cooler heads will prevail (whatever the outcome) and that the battleground will occur in Pennsylvania.
