This is pretty impressive. It's easier to name the US billionaires who did not their start with PayPal, like Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger.

That Didn't Age Well -- February 21, 2023
Folks can fact-check this; no links.
California.
A year ago: a $100-billion budget surplus forecast.
Then, folks started moving out of California. The rich folks. The folks who could afford to move.
Now: a $30-billion budget deficit.
Wow.
Teachers and pensioners watching this closely.
Lana Del Rey — And Hawaiian Shirts — A New Year Begins — February 21, 2023
March 17th: the day every year I start wearing Hawaiian shirts every day through Thanksgiving.
Today brings another tradition: February 21st — the day we start a new “Lana del Rey” season.
Born to die.
I’m finally getting it: mammalian evolution.
Dinosaurs: born to die.
Poolside: sun starting to disappear behind the apartment complex. Cool breeze. An incredibly beautiful day.
People starting to grill.
La parilla.
Best thing I ever did in retirement: Duolingo.
My mind wanders: Los Feliz Blvd, along Griffith Park.
Brooklyn Baby: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntZONYzAMCo.
Bose headphones. Loud.
This may just be the most perfect day of the year so far, and it’s just February.
West coast: nice but for beginners — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Py_-3di1yx0.
Belle: what is she doing today?
Pat: if only.
Is there a genre between poetry and prose?
And we circle back to Lana del Rey: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnxpHIl5Ynw.
Another day like this and I’m going to quit blogging. LOL.
I’m going to head out to DFW at 6:45 p.m. to surprise Sophia. She arrives from Denver at 7:10.

For The Archives -- Williston High School Wrestling -- February 21, 2023
Wrestling was my sport in Williston.
I could have the name wrong, but if I recall correctly, in my first year of wrestling, at the 95-pound weight class -- or it might have been a year later at a higher weight class -- I wrestled a "Tom Christen" out of Watford City who absolutely "destroyed me" when we wrestled. I think he also went on to become a state champion that that time.
This might explain it. LOL. From 2009 (by the way, that page misspells the last name of the founder of wrestling in North Dakota.
"The Googie-Heim" -- A Lookback -- Williston, ND -- February 21, 2023

The American State Bank, branch office, one block off Main Street: the epitome of googie in Williston, ND.
My dad's first insurance office, Manger Insurance, Inc., sat right next to this bank for many, many years.
Manger Insurance, Inc., moved to a newer location several years before the googie was demolished, and then Manger moved again, this time to its current location.
For the record, Manger has always had non-googie architecture.
NOTE: the article below is from 2008.

1963. I was twelve years old. This new building absolutely fascinated me. It was right next to my dad's office, and attached to my dad's office was a donut shop. Whoo-hoo.
I have a lot of great memories all the while this building was standing -- I attended WHS 1965 to 1969, participating in many extracurricular activities.
Dad never talked much about this building but I assume a lot of farmers got a kick out of stopping at Manger and looking at such a crazy building.
I have no idea what possessed ASB to do a googie, but I was, and still am, very, very impressed.
I never realized this building actually stood that long.
Leviathan
We'll start here. This "giant field" has now been added to the list of "other fields" tracked at the sidebar at the right.

From oilprice, February 21, 2023:
As usual, in one paragraph oilprice talks about production in "bcf" and reserves in "tcm."
- 12 bcm/year = 423,780 million cubic feet = 423,780 MMCF = 0.42378 trillion cubic feet
In round numbers, to put that in perspective, the MB/TF probably has upwards of 10 trillion cubic feet of recoverable dry natural gas.
NDIC:
90,881,078 mcf / 30 days = 90,881 MMCF = 90,881 million cubic feet = 90.881 bcf = 2.55 bcm / month or 12 * 2.55 = 30 bcm/year.
Wow, I don't trust my numbers at all. Feel free to fact check, but all I want to know is daily production (or yearly production) in same units, Leviathan vs Bakken.

RBN Energy: Uinta Basin's waxy crude is on a roll. Archived. The Uinta is tracked here.
Times are good indeed in the Uinta Basin in northeastern Utah, where one of the world’s most unusual — and, in many ways, most desirable — crude oils is being produced with increasing efficiency and in fast-rising volumes.
Yes, production of the Uinta’s trademark waxy crude is up by more than 50% in the past year and a half, to record-shattering levels, and demand for the dense, slippery hydrocarbon, with its minimal sulfur content, next-to-no impurities and favorable medium-to-high API numbers, is up too.
Waxy crude may be a pain in the butt to transport and store — it needs to be kept warm to remain in a liquid state — but it is a staple at the five refineries in nearby Salt Lake City, and at least a handful of Gulf Coast refineries want as much of the stuff as they can get their hands on because of its desirable qualities. But without infrastructure enhancements, there may be limits to how much Uinta production can grow from here, as we discuss in today’s RBN blog.
