White House Is Monitoring The Surge In The Price Of Oil; Ready To Engage OPEC; EOG Breaks Even At $30; Covers Their Dividend At $36 -- January 18, 2022

Tight physical market points to higher oil prices. Link to Tsvetana Paraskova. I wasn't going to link this article -- it didn't seem to offer anything new but then deep into the article, this surprise:

The premiums for the Forties and Ekofisk grades from the North Sea are at their highest in two years. The prices of crude grades from West Africa have also jumped amid low Libyan supply in recent weeks. The Bakken crude from North Dakota is also trading at its highest level compared to benchmarks in nearly two years, according to Bloomberg’s estimates.

Just wait until they shut down the DAPL if they want to see price of oil jump. LOL.

Breaking news, White House spokesperson: we still have tools at our disposal to deal with rising oil prices and will engage OPEC as needed. Meanwhile, the permits on pipelines remain pulled and further leasing on federal land remains off-limits.

This took place in October, 2021. See if you spot the obvious.

One thing led to another and before I knew it, I was here:

It is amazing Sara Bareilles found time to do this.

The Never Ending Story -- January 18, 2022

Again, I found this well more than a year ago; never got around to posting it, but in the meantime it has another jump in production.

The Bakken is simply a never ending story.

The well:

  • 23536, 2,315, Slawson, Gabriel 2-36-25H, North Tobacco Garden, t12/12; cum 347K 11/21; full production here;

And, of course, this well led me to "her" sister well which is an even better well, #24521. This latter well has produced about the exact amount #23536 has produced, but its current production is doing much better.

For me, I am inappropriately exuberant about the Bakken; a cup that's always half full.

Chart Of The Day -- The UK / EU Energy Crisis -- January 18 , 2022

I'm bored with the whole story and apparently no one else really cares either.

Stiff upper lip and all that stuff.

But for the archives. Someday we might find this interesting, although I doubt it. Any island that can survive the blitzkrieg can muddle through a self-inflicted energy crisis.

And, anyway, it will be warm again next summer.

Chart of the day, Javier Blas:

Paraphrasing Joe Biden, "Frankly, the Texas freeze in February, 2021, got more ink than the European energy crisis."

Brandon: All Hands On Deck -- Release The Kraken -- January 18, 2022

Oil hits seven-year high. Administration is monitoring the situation. Will release the kraken in February (just two weeks from now); March, just six weeks from now.  Wow, no matter what the stock market does, the oil companies are going to make a lot of money. Let's see. WTI at $85; EOG breakeven at $30; covers their dividend at $36. WTI trading at $85.85.

And this is pretty funny: BlackRock knows it.

Link here.

I wonder if DC will reverse the judge's ruling that ended lease sales in North Dakota.

I wonder if DC will re-permit all those pipelines.

Glad to see the Biden administration is on top of this, "monitoring the situation." LOL.

Don't you just love this political theater?

I was reviewing some of my posts from the Obama era. Amazing how often I was wrong

And, so it goes.

The Slawson Rainmaker Federal - Lightning Federal Wells

Updates

August 20, 2022: production data updated. Recent fracking in the area; several wells remain off line.

Original Post

I've been remiss on "identifying" several Slawson plays.

Perhaps the last time was back in August when I updated Slawson's Stallion / Zephyr pads

One of those wells was a Slawson Rainmaker, which ran from the south to the north.

A reader alerted me to eleven Rainmaker / Skybolt wells that just went "confidential." I was aware of them but just did not have any interest in updating them now. But now that a reader is interested here goes.

I had followed them earlier, back from May, 2020. These wells will now be followed here.

First, the graphics:

Now, the eleven wells that just went confidential and wells of interest in the immediate area, west to east:

Notes From All Over -- January 18, 2022

Honey: link here --

  • North Dakota leads the nation in honey production
  • together with Montana and South Dakota, the three states produced nearly half of all US honey in 2019
  • now, a commercial beekeeping supply business is taking advantage of that fact
  • Commercial Bee Supply, Hettinger, ND, to set up business in southwest ND to serve customers in three of the top five honey-producing state in the country
  • will serve customers in  ND, SD, MT, WY,
  • top US-honey-producing states (statista): ND, SD, CA, TX, MT.

Ethanol: in praise of corn ethanol. Doomberg

Coal: of all electricity sources, coal-fired power saw the largest growth in 2021. Link here

Staff shortages: restaurants cutting back on hours. Link to WSJ. I've never understood why some companies are so persistent in staying open during hours when there is so little activity. Chick-fil-A is a great example of taking it to the extreme: completely shut down on a day that would likely be their biggest day in sales. But at the other extreme, I see restaurants remaining open far longer than one would think reasonable. Customers will adjust. Covid will telescope 2020 - 2035 cultural changes into 2020 - 2025. Shorter restaurant hours will be one of those changes for many restaurants, although once things improve, they will go back to their wasteful habits.
