The Truth Be Told -- January 17, 2022

As soon as the hostage situation in Colleyville had ended, the FBI spokesperson briefed the press and the community on the situation up to that point. He provided no new information ("investigation still ongoing") but bragged about how great the FBI, law enforcement, and the SWAT team had been.

In fact, now that the rabbi has detailed the last three minutes of the hostage situation, we learn that the truth was quite different than what the FBI spokesperson told us or led us to believe.

I'm sure the story is everywhere. If by the end of the week you have not found the links to the rabbi's version of events, let me know.  

Note: the synagogue in which this hostage situation occurred is just down the street from where we live; easy to bike to, a bit far to walk. My wife attends political meetings in this synagogue on a regular basis, at least once a month, if not twice a month. She drives.

Monday Morning Quarterbacking: Dallas Cowboys -- Didn't Even Get Past The Wildcard Game -- A Lot Of Folks Saw This Trainwreck Coming -- January 17, 2022

Jason's take on this. 

Dallas Cowboys. It came down to four things:

• The team. The Cowboys did not show up until the second half, maybe not until the fourth quarter; was there a team leader? Any enthusiasm on the sidelines? Home field advantage?
  
• Zeke: I didn't watch all of the game, but watched a lot of it and watched the highlights. One question: did Zeke Elliott play or was he out, injured? Is he being paid $90 million? I wonder if more bling in his nose would have helped?
  
• The coach: the team was undisciplined: not only a huge amount of penalties but they always came at the worst time possible time; coach reacted like a Cowboys fan, not like a coach
• The quarterback: most noticeable of the four "things": Dak Prescott couldn't pull the trigger; he waited way too long to throw; often didn't throw; compare to:
• that Buccaneers quarterback (I'm blanking on his name): he would throw regardless; he threw to where the receiver was going to be (based on the play called); not to where the player seemed to be heading; players kept their routes; disciplined.
  
• the Chiefs quarterback, Mahomes: his strength -- creative on almost every throw; sidearm; perfect spiral; shuffle pass; long pass; lob; throwing when he was falling; whatever it took
• five TD passes in eleven minutes; fastest any quarterback has ever done that;
• in comparison, Prescott looked like a straight-ahead runner when he didn't throw an incomplete pass;
• play management? Fourteen seconds left and he slides in the middle of the field with no timeouts left? What was he thinking? Had he run to the sideline, they would have had one more "hail Mary" pass; but at least now they can blame the referee (which no one does).

Operators Fracking Wells As Quickly As Possible After Drilling To Depth -- January 17, 2022

I'm sure this has happened before but I've never seen it, or if I've seen it, I've forgotten and surely have not blogged it.

When oil prices were low, operators waited up to two years to complete a drilled well (DUCs). We waited months, almost two years to see initial production data for a well that had been drilled to depth but not fracked (DUCs).

Now, this is amazing. With the exception of a handful of Slawson wells, virtually every well that came off the confidential list in the last quarter -- the fourth quarter 2021 -- was completed and producing oil in the next quarter -- first quarter 2022. In other words, not only are more DUCs being completed (as being reported by everyone), new wells are being fracked as soon as possible after reading total depth to take advantage of the high oil prices.
