"Focus On Fracking" Due Out Later This Evening -- March 22, 2020

Later this evening we should see the weekly update of "Focus on Fracking."

In anticipation, I re-read parts of last week's update, dated March 15, 2020.

I was particularly interested in two items:
  • the recent purge by Prince MBS; and,
  • the effect of the coronavirus on the kingdom.
I had completely missed this and was curious what the status was:
The fall in oil prices follows Riyadh’s temporary suspension of the Umrah pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina, and a ban on entry to the kingdom for pilgrims, to sterilize the religious sites to halt the spread of the new coronavirus.
[For] Saudi’s corporate elite, the pilgrimage guarantees a steady flow of income, lucrative construction contracts and the growth of luxury hotel chains around the holy mosque. A 10-day Hajj package trip, from specially licensed agencies with close connections to the ruling family, can cost around $7,000 not including the presents that the pilgrims are expected to buy for their families.
This is a huge loss of revenue for the kingdom if the "temporary" halt becomes permanent. I'm not sure how it cannot be permanent. The kingdom could delay the pilgrimage for months, but latent virus, which surely exists, could come roaring back -- and those foreign pilgrims would return to their homes (e.g., EU, UK, and US) potentially sparking a second wave of Wuhan flu.

Mini Re-Fracks

When the Broderson DUCs were fracked, three older Broderson underwent small mini re-fracks. Production profile for two of the three below; the third previously posted -- see link above. For the expense of a very small re-frack Equinor got a very, very nice #24411 (below0:

Random Update Of Wells Coming Off Line -- March 22, 2020

XTO FBIR Blackmedicine:
  • Unless I'm missing something, these wells -- the XTO FBIR Blackmedicine wells -- look like incredibly poor wells -- except for the very first one. I noted that two of the wells have just come off line.
BR Rising Sun:
  • These are good wells in Clear Creek oil field. It appears that they are all coming off line; some have been offline for a few months now. Nothing on the map to explain why, although I might have missed something.
Slawson Jeriyote:
  • 24919, 660, Slawson, Jeriyote 7-5-32TFH, Big Bend, t7/14; cum 219K 9/19; sporadic production but seems to be a great well now, 3/19; off line as of 9/19; remains off line, 1/20; back on line; cum 302K 1/22;

Word For The Day -- WIth A Surprise -- March 22, 2020

This is for the granddaughters for whom I collect words I find in day-to-reading that might show up again in their reading. I have nine pages of vocabulary, playing about ten words on each page, enough for one 4 x 6 index card.

A reader sent me crwth. I have not added it to the granddaughters' list because it is unlikely to show up in their reading ... unless they are studying Welsh. Or perhaps Old English. One wonders if Shakespeare used it. I digress.

The word for the day: Maecenas.
Gaius Clinius Maecenas: friend/political advisor to Octavian / Augustus; important patron for the new generation of Augustan poets, including both Horace and Virgil; Maecenate (patronage); his name has become the eponym for ‘patron of arts”; Virgil introduced Horace to Maecenas; Maecenas has become a byword in many languages for a well-connected and wealthy patron.
At wiki
His name has become a byword in many languages for a well-connected and wealthy patron. For instance, John Dewey, in his lectures Art as Experience, said "Economic patronage by wealthy and powerful individuals has at many times played a part in the encouragement of artistic production. Probably many a savage tribe had its Maecenas."
In Poland and Western Ukraine, a lawyer would customarily be addressed with the honorific "Pan Mecenas", as lawyers were considered to be philanthropists and patrons of the arts.
In The Great Gatsby, along with Midas and J. P. Morgan, Maecenas is one of the three famous wealthy men whose secrets narrator Nick Carraway hopes to find in the books he buys for his home library.
The word "Maecenas", in the sense of cultural benefactor, was the penultimate word used in the 2009 Scripps National Spelling Bee, on May 28, 2009. It was spelled incorrectly.
Okay, I added "crwth" to the page nine. LOL.

Daily Note, Late Morning Edition -- March 22, 2020

Italy: There's a meme out there that one of the reasons for the high death rate in Italy has to do with an aged population. Some say it has the oldest population in the western world, maybe in the world, period, with no qualifying phrase (in the western world). The sources all use the word "Italy" -- grouping a very long, narrow, peninsula as one region. So, I will do the same but I know folks will then say that Lombardy and the surrounding area has a very aged population compared to the rest of Italy. I doubt it. But let's press on.

A reader asked about German and the Wuhan flu. My reply:
Statistics, cases, deaths, case fatality ratio:
  • US: 27,000 / 350 / 1.3%
  • South Korea: 9,000 / 100 / 1.1%
  • Germany: 23,000 / 93 / 0.4%
Germany started seeing cases about a week after Italy went ballistic with numbers.

This age difference statistic may not be holding up. Median age:
  • Italy: 45 years old -- out of control; age-wise? younger than Japan
  • Germany: 47 years old
  • Japan: 47 years old -- at the moment, seems to have things under control;
  • South Korea: 42 years old
  • United States: 38 years old
Bottom line: Italy is not as old as folks are making it out to be.

Government policy made by the CDC. Not good.
