NASCAR And NFL Today -- Schedule Deconflicts Nicely -- October 16, 2016

If you can see the moon tonight, you will note that it is the "biggest," brightest moon so far this century.

Family water polo: early afternoon; ending about 4:00 p.m.

NASCAR at Kansas, starts about 2:30 p.m.; will end after 4:00 p.m. NBC. Field drops to "EIGHT" after Chase Race #6.  Today is Hollywood Casino/Kansas, 12 in the chase; and next week, at Talladega, AL, still 12 in the chase. Then the Round of Eight begins at Martinsville, October 30. Jimmie Johnson is the first (and only so far) to have qualified for the Round of Eight. [Update: Harvick won, earning a guaranteed spot in the Round of Eight -- the second driver to win a slot.] Next week at Talladega will decide who the final eight are.

Dallas Cowboys kickoff 3:30 p.m. FOX. I'm doing what I can to save NFL ratings. Dallas leads NFC East tied for best record at 4 - 1 (tied with many teams). Amazingly, it appears the Vikings, at 5 - 0, are the only undefeated NFL team. They won't play today (a "bye") but next week, against the Philadelphia Eagles. This will improve the ratings.

Over at Macrumors: Macy's Becomes First U.S. Department Store With Dedicated Apple Section. Reported by the AP:
Macy's today opened a new hub dedicated to Apple products at its flagship Herald Square store in Manhattan, becoming the first U.S. department store with a shopping area devoted to the brand.
The store-within-a-store concept, similar to those found in Best Buy and Walmart stores, has four light wood tables featuring a wide range of Apple products, including the Apple Watch, iPhones, iPads, iMacs, and MacBooks.

Another new "seasoning" I noted over the weekend: baharat seasoning. My wife did not know it by this name but was familiar with it. I have probably experienced it over the years, but never knew. Aleksandra Crapanzano used garlic, baharat seasoning, turmeric, fresh ginger, lemon juice, cilantro and sea salt as a "rub" for "Ginger and Cilantro-Spiced Cod."

Bakken Update: 30 Of The Best US Oil Wells Show Why Operators Can Compete Internationally -- Mike Filloon

Over at SeekingAlpha.

Summary:
  • The best unconventional wells in the US continue to get better, with some locations producing over 60,000 bbls of oil in the first month
  • Shale production has pushed the US closer to energy self-sufficiency, and has tipped the balance of world oil markets
  • Operators continue to produce play best type wells through enhanced well designs or mega-frac's, and we expect these types of results to continue going forward
  • Improving shale economics have made it competitive on an international level, as production from deep water is losing out on operator cap ex.
One well he singles out in the Bakken is:
  • 28717, 3,638, Whiting, P Johnson 153-98-1-6-7-16HA, Traux, 35 stages, 6.8 million lbs, t8/15; cum 288K 8/16;
