Four (4) New Permits -- Bakken, North Dakota, USA

Daily activity report, July 12, 2011 --

Operators: Petro Harvester, Vecta Oil and Gas, BEXP and Baytex.

Fields: Renville, Williston, West Ambrose and one wildcat.

The wildcat is Vecta's permit in Ward County. This is the first permit in North Dakota ever by Vecta according to the NDIC website.

The rest of the daily report was benign, except for the following wells with a change of operator from CLR to BR:

• 16983, Mathistad 1-35H
• 17433, Ole -1-29H
• 17733, Kumer 1-31H
• 18013, Mathistad 2-35H
• 18225, Norman 1-9H
• 18624, Meldahl 1-23H

I will look it up later, but I think the Mathistad was one of the wells that helped confirm the Three Forks formation and the Bakken formation do not communicate.

China’s economy and industrial output expanded more than analysts predicted, driving up stocks acros Asia as the nation maintains momentum after monetary tightening to cool inflation.

Gross domestic product rose 9.5 percent in the second quarter from a year earlier, the statistics bureau said in Beijing today, after a 9.7 percent gain in the previous three months. The median estimate was 9.3 percent in a Bloomberg News survey of 18 economists.

Elizabeth Ames Jones, Chairman of the Texas Railroad Commission (RRC), the energy regulatory agency for the US’s largest oil and natural gas producing state, hopes to finalize a rule-making before the end of the year to disclose components of the solutions used in the hydraulic fracturing process  now so common in drilling natural gas and oil wells.

Jones said, “This rule will provide the additional assurance to the public that a common sense disclosure policy affords, and it will provide operators uniformity and reliability regarding the disclosure process for all wells that are hydraulically fractured in Texas. I hope we can have the rule ready for implementation before the end of the year."

“Our rulemaking should not be misconstrued to upend my earlier statements. It is still geologically impossible for fracturing fluid or natural gas or oil to migrate upward through thousands of feet of rock, sometimes miles, to adversely affect ground water.”

For newbies, the Texas RRC is akin to the NDIC. In general, policies of this sort set by the RRC are adopted by all states.

NDIC Did Not Post a Daily Activity Report Today -- Bakken, North Dakota, USA

Generally I think it's due to a mistyped URL, or a broken link, so we should see the daily activity report for July 12, 2011, tomorrow. Then again the person who types in the daily activity report might have just seen that he/she has a huge well on her/his land and simply left NDIC without notice, telling her/his boss to "take this job...."

I will be with family all day Wednesday, so I won't be posting between 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. I hope to get a few posts in first thing in the morning.

Back to 175 Active Rigs -- Record: 179 -- Bakken, North Dakota, USA

The number of active rigs has been very volatile of late, dropping to a recent low of 166 last week. It has gotten back to 175 surprisingly quickly.

The question is whether we will be range bound, or whether "we" will set new records before the summer is over? I think we set a new record by September 15, 2011.
