Four New Permits; Number Of Active Rigs Drops To 14 -- March 2, 2021

Market:

  • waiting for Chevron and Warren Buffett to go forward with a SPAC;
  • happy to see Elizabeth Warren going forward with tax on super-wealthy; maybe divert that ill-earned wealth toward reparations; better them than me;
  • with President's announcement today, could be an interesting day in the market tomorrow;
    • announcement: all Americans should have access to vaccine by end of May, two months earlier than what his predecessor promised;
    • how was this possible: US will not share vaccine with Mexico; if those south of the border want vaccine, they can come up here to get it;

Timeline:

Gasoline: headline -- one out of seven north Texas service stations without gasoline

  • haven't noticed a thing here in DFW area
  • Hurricane Harvey? huge shortage that lasted for weeks

Vaccination Rollout

Updates

Later
: this is absolutely amazing. It just demonstrates what "we" can do when the government gets out of the way. Link here. Glad to see President Biden kept the pressure on Big Pharma and government regulators. Texas and Mississippi have removed all mask restrictions as of today; all, removed all capacity restrictions for public gatherings. Whoo-hoo! We survived! Next milestone: no more reservations required for vaccination. Apple has re-opened every Apple retail store in the US. Starting to look like a snowball. Apparently Merck will be adding a vaccine; if so, this would be the fourth vaccine. Apparently the production capacity for vaccines is quite remarkable, much better than expected. Cartoon: steam roller over Dr Fauci double masking.

Original Post

All things considered, the Trump vaccine rollout has gone quite well. These are the February statistics from the CDC. We’re trending toward  2.5 million  adults being vaccinated on weekdays. Now that the state of California has transferred responsibility of vaccine delivery from “the state” to the private sector, the numbers should improve dramatically.

The third vaccine -- the JNJ vaccine -- will be available this month (March, 2021). It will be interesting to see the jump in the number of vaccine doses delivered once this vaccine becomes available.

Less than a year after the pandemic was identified, lockdowns were announced, and masks were mandated, there are three vaccines available in the US, and many more than that worldwide. Just think, that "three weeks to flatten the curve," took a year. Who wudda thought?
