The Bakken Never Ceases To Amaze Me -- June 28, 2020

An incredible number of wells that came off the confidential list in 1Q20 and 2Q20 did not report any production; some were placed on drl status; others were DUCs (SI/NC).

Now, interestingly, a lot of those wells are now reporting production. I honestly did not expect to see this so soon. It is not unusual for DUCs to remain DUCs for one to two years.

I started going through these wells earlier this evening, but there were so many, I just had to quit. I could have done this all night.

These are some huge wells. These are infill wells. Analysts say these wells should not be this "huge." Just think when they go back and re-frack all those wells drilled back before 2014 (seven years of wells -- 2007 - 2014 -- that will need to be re-fracked). And, then of course, for every middle Bakken well there needs to be a corresponding Three Forks first bench well where the Three Forks exists, and maybe a second bench and a third bench well, as well. There's a lot of work left to be done in the Bakken assuming the world still uses oil five years from now and the next administration doesn't ban fracking.

These are the posts:
Disclaimer: I went through a lot of wells very quickly. There will be content and typographical errors. If this information is important to you, go to the source.

A BR Well Producing At A Rate Of 125K Over 30 Days? -- June 28, 2020

Came off confidential list 1Q20; not completed and no production reported at the time. Now, we have production.

It seems I have posted this one before, but possibly I have not. Can't remember, but even if I have, it's worth reporting again.

The well:
  • 35690, SI/NC-->F/NC, BR, Tailgunner 1E MBH, North Fork, t--; cum 54K after 13 days;
Production: 53,936 bbls over 13 days extrapolates to a mind-blowing  124,468 bbls over 30 days, assuming no typographical error in the report:

Veeder Wells In Blue Buttes Starting To Report Production -- One Monster Well, So Far -- June 28, 2020

There are several Veeder wells on this pad. They were DUCs, and reported minimal production the first few days after "completion" and then taken off line. But it appears, these wells are starting to report nice production. Also, note that the wells below went from SI/NC-->F/NC.

The well:
  • 34382, SI/NC-->F/NC, BR, Veeder 3B MBH, Blue Buttes, minimal production; then none after the first eight days; then 69K 4/20;

A Closer Look At Four WPX Meadowlark Wells In Heart Butte -- June 28, 2020

Assuming this is not an error, this could be quite a well. This is one of many wells that came off the confidential list in 2Q20 but did not report any production data at the time it was released. Since then, production has been reported.

The well:
  • 36964, drl/drl, WPX, Meadowlark 6-34HB, Heart Butte, t--; cum 21K over 7 days;
Production:
PoolDateDaysBBLS OilRunsBBLS WaterMCF ProdMCF SoldVent/Flare
BAKKEN4-2020720726206311311115192100842859
BAKKEN3-20200000000

Now, if that is accurate, and not an error, the well produced 20,726 bbls over seven days which extrapolates to 88,826 bbls over 30 days.

Do you know what they called these wells in 1969? Gushers.

The four wells on that pad:
  • 36964, see above
  • 36963, drl/A, WPX, Meadowlark 6-34HW, Heart Butte, t--; cum 18K over 7 days;
  • 36962, drl/A, WPX, Meadowlark 6-34HA, Heart Butte, t--; cum 34K over 25 days;
  • 36961, drl/A, WPX, Meadowlark 6-34HQL, Heart Butte, t--; cum 14K over 17 days;
Early production:

To the east, and in the same drilling unit, there is a WPX 5-well Nighthawk pad, all wells on drl/drl status.

A bit farther to the west, is a Rimrock Two Shields Butte well that might be impacted by the Meadowlark wells, but it's a bit far to the west, so hard to say, but it was taken off line 3/20 and remains off line 4/20:
  • 30642, 3,572, Rimrock, Two Shields Butte 13-22-33-16H, Heart Butte, t9/15; cum 423K 3/20 -- note almost 500K bbls crude oil cumulative in five years

These are wells that were released from the confidential list during the 1Q20 but did not report production or an IP at the time they came off the confidential list. Tonight I'm running through the list and will post those that have not previously been posted. [Note: I have only gotten through a small part of the list; I may or may not complete this exercise later.]
