Daiso Hss Arrived! -- December 15, 2015

In Japanese, Daiso translates to "Dollar Store."  And they are immaculate.

Our oldest granddaughter has been waiting for this day for quite some time. Common in California, but not so much elsewhere, Daiso has finally arrived here in north Texas.

Just in time for Christmas!

It is even more exciting that the first Daiso store opened up in Carrollton, just a hop, skip, and a jump from where we live in Grapevine -- a 20-minute drive, according to Google, all highway driving.
The operative words here are cute, fun, good idea and I didn’t even know I needed that.
You’ll be sounding like a broken record as you walk down the aisles of the latest store concept to hit Texas: Daiso Japan. That’s pronounced Die-so.
If the best creative merchants from Target and The Container Store got together to develop a dollar store, this would be it.
The first of about 10 Daiso stores in Dallas and 10 more in Houston opens Saturday, August 1, in Carrollton Town Center at 2540 Old Denton Rd. (There was a soft opening Friday.) The neighborhood shopping center is getting a redo with anchor Asian grocer 99 Ranch Market opening in mid-October. The center is located on the southeast corner of President George Bush Turnpike and Old Denton Road in Carrollton.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy

I've watched this movie each night for the past three nights. I never get tired of it. Every time I watch it, it seems, I see something new. [The original post was written earlier today; this addendum was added about 10:57 p.m. Central Time.]

This is the reason it is such a great movie: it's all about relationships.
  • Bill Haydon and Jim Prideaux
  • Prideaux and the young Bill
  • Ricky Tarr and Irina
  • George and Control
  • George and Peter
  • George and Connie
I had not thought about this before. The parallel relationships of Bill Haydon and Jim Prideaux; and Bill Roach and Jim Prideaux. Both were named "Bill." One old and worldly; one young and innocent. At the end of the movie, Jim ends his relationship with both "Bills." Violently.

It's hard to believe the name of these two characters, Bill, was a coincidence. It's not something one "knows" consciously but after multiple viewings it gets into your subconscious.
