Did I Miss Something?

President O'Bama establishes a White House Council on Native American Affairs to promote a healthier relationship among the United States and tribal governments.

Where the heck did this come from? I'm assuming the "George Custer" transcripts from 1876 were just declassified by the NSA and sent up to the White House.

When I see this, I'm reminded of other KRP.

  1. As I now live on a reservation, (Northern Cheyenne, Lame Deer Montana) I can honestly say-
The ABSOLUTE LAST thing native Americans need is another gov't agency telling them how to live. The BIA has been screwing things up for the last 100 yrs or so as it is.

    1. I have no dog in that fight, but that's been my impression.

It seems the government-run reservations are incredibly anachronistic. It would be awesome, I would imagine it would be quite historic if a modern-day Martin Luther King or a Nelson Mandela would "free" the Native Americans once and for all to run their own lives.

  2. when one of FDR's "New Deal" ideas was being debated in Congress, the comment was made- Why do we think a welfare program would work, we've been doing that for 50 yrs with the reservations and we all know how that's turned out.
The options were a welfare based or work based program. Fed's choose welfare and, as they say, "The rest is history"

    1. Sad commentary, isn't it?

What I find even more incredible, the French have not yet figured this out, and seem to be finding ways to make things worse for themselves.

We're fortunate that we have 50 states -- each of which can watch how others are doing, what works, what doesn't.
