  1. Thanks for the work put into this site.

    Questions from a “noob”.

Are all wells put on confidential list? If not, what approximate portion is put on confidential list?
Are those wells not put on confidential list reported by NDIC as they are started?

    Again thanks!

  2. Thank you for your kind comments. I can't say for sure, but I think "all" wells in the current Bakken boom are put on the confidential list. It only takes a written request, doesn't cost anything.

I track every permit on a spreadsheet, and when I check them, they are always "confidential." I suppose I could miss a few that aren't confidential, but it would be very rare.

If you go to the confidential well list and start at the bottom where the 24XXX permits begin (at the bottom) and work up, you will find there is no break in the permit list for a quite awhile. I just checked a few of the gaps and those permits not on the confidential list are still "location" only and will eventually be made confidential, I'm sure.

The 90XXX series of permits are all salt water disposal wells and those wells are also put on the confidential list.

They are only on the confidential list for six months; as a layperson I've found nothing to suggest I am missing something not knowing what is going on in general.

Yes, if they aren't on the confidential list, their spud date would be posted.
